And it’s a wrap!

My debut EP is done! I am so happy with how the songs came out and I’m excited to share them with the world. Now it’s time to buckle down and do the not-so-fun-or-creative stuff like registering with CDBaby (the company that will distribute the album to all the major digital retailers and streaming companies) and joining a Performing Rights Organization (ASCAP or BMI? I still don’t know). But I have to say, it’s pretty cool knowing that soon my songs will be on iTunes, Spotify and Amazon. Stay tuned for updates on when the album will be officially released!

Time for Mixing

Posted

All the tracks are done, we’ve recorded vocals (twice, because I’m being really picky), levels are pretty solid – now it’s time for the mixing. I’m super excited to hear how each of the songs come out. They’re fairly unique, yet I do think they all ended up having a “Dani Good” sound. Thanks so much to Jamie Candiloro who has been a seriously professional yet supportive producer throughout the whole process. And because his studio is on Melrose Ave, which I rarely go to these days, I’m now aware of a bunch of good restaurants and even a cool record store that I have to check out some time when I’m not recording. Three 45s for a $1? Yes, please! Of course most of them are pretty cheesy and some don’t even have real covers, but they’re songs from my childhood, so who cares?

It’s “vocals” day…

Today may be the most important of the entire recording session. Jamie has been doing some amazing work with the instrumentation on my songs, but really, the vocals are where I have to step up to the plate. I’m not really nervous – more excited, especially now that I’ve been in the studio and recorded vocals a few times now. But I do still feel some pressure. I’ll know if there are parts that could have been better even if a general listener doesn’t catch them. So off I go, ready to make the best damn album possible!

Recording is underway!

It’s Week 1 of recording for my debut EP and we are making some serious progress. Tracks are being laid down, and lots of ’em! Nothing like some experimentation in the studio, including a live drum session that we decided to do Saturday night. Now I understand why big artists spend months making an album…studio time + creativity + great people = better than my day job 🙂
